The NRPA Gold Medal is the highest national award that a parks and recreation department can receive. With this honor, Canton Leisure Services has demonstrated itself as one of the best parks and recreation departments in the country for a community with a population between 50,000 and 100,000.

Canton Leisure Services is the 2008 winner of the National Recreation and Parks Association Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management.

The most prestigious award of its kind, the Gold Medal Award honors communities throughout the U.S. that demonstrate excellence in long-range planning, fiscal resource management, citizen support systems, environmental stewardship, preservation, technological integration, program planning and assessment, professional development, and agency recognition.

Accreditation from CAPRA

Canton Leisure Services is proud to be recognized as one of two agencies in the state of Michigan to have earned national accreditation from the Commission of Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) and is just one of 119 organizations to achieve accreditation nation-wide.



Leisure Services was required to meet over 150 standards covering all operations in parks and recreation management.

Leisure Services achieved accreditation in 2004 and was reaccredited in 2008 and 2013.
