(Canton, MI – June 4, 2012) Pheasant Run Golf Club played host to the Michigan Publinx Medal Play tournament May 26-27, 2012, with 95 contestants participating in the event. Presented by the Michigan Publinx Golf Association (MPGA), this 54 hole event is one of the premier amateur golf events held annually in Michigan. Event play was a bit delayed by weather on Saturday, but players battled the elements to finish on time and in great form. Greg Davies held the first day lead ahead by 4 strokes at 6 under par. The skies parted Sunday for a perfect day of golf and showed great scoring. Greg Davies held on to his lead shooting 2 under par for 27 holes on Sunday and finished at 8 under par for the 54 hole total. Davies’ fine play earned him the title of 2012 Michigan Publinx Medal Play Champion. The Medal Play Championship moved to Pheasant Run from a long standing engagement at Fellows Creek, also located in Canton, MI. Plans for the future of the event may involve rotating courses year to year between Fellows Creek and Pheasant Run. Adding Pheasant Run to the mix truly gives Canton 2 exceptional public championship tested golf venues. Known as one of the oldest and most respected golf organizations in the state, the Michigan Publinx Golf Association (MPGA) was founded in 1951. Along with the Golf Association of Michigan (GAM) and the Professional Golfers Association of America (PGA), the Michigan Publinx Golf Association is one of the original organizations established to serve golfers in the State of Michigan.
