Canton Non-Profit Groups To Play Key Role in 2012 Liberty Fest

Canton, MI – May 29, 2012 - Canton Leisure Services is proud to once again partner with several non-profit community groups during Liberty Fest, Canton’s popular summertime community celebration. Several community organizations will again participate and give back to the community in this annual celebration, including:

America's Most Wanted Car Club: This Canton-based club has been conducting car shows to benefit local charities for over 20 years and has participated in all but one of Canton's Liberty Fest celebrations. With over 50 members, this car club exhibits numerous vehicles mostly from the 1920s through the 1970s throughout the Metro Detroit area and as far away as Frankenmuth, MI. Stroll along the ponds of Liberty Fest on Saturday, June 16 to enjoy some of the finest automobiles created. Vehicles will range from classic restorations to race cars. Proceeds from this year's Liberty Fest appearance will benefit Camp A.B.L.E., a summer camp in Canton, MI designed for children ages 8-14 with special needs, and VFW Stand Down Project, which offers respite and resources to disadvantaged veterans who desperately need it. For more information about America's Most Wanted Car Club, contact Connie Xenakis at 734/455-9796.

The Canton Firefighters #2289 Charity Foundation: This dedicated non-profit group was established in 1995 by Canton Firefighters to support Canton community charities, assist in emergency relief efforts and other worthwhile causes that surface in the community. Each year the Canton Firefighters #2289 Charity Foundation hosts a popular Spaghetti Dinner at Liberty Fest, thanks to the generous donations from Rose's Restaurant of Canton. Be sure to stop by and enjoy a scrumptious dinner, while supplies last, on Friday, June 16 from 5 - 9 p.m. Proceeds from this year’s dinner will benefit the family of Canton Firefighter Ryan Swick, who recently lost his battle with cancer. For more information about the Canton Firefighters #2289 Charity Foundation, visit their website www.cantonfirefighters.org/charity.html.

The Canton Lions Club: Celebrating over 40 years of dedicated service in our community, the Canton Lions Club is a group that comes together and shares a common interest in community service, supporting the Lions motto "We Serve."  The clubs exist so that members may pool their skills, talents and resources for the betterment of the community. Since establishing its charter in 1968, club members have raised and distributed over $200,000 in charitable grants to nonprofit service agencies. Don't miss the Canton Lions Club's Annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, June 16 from 7 - 11 a.m. in the Heritage Park North Pavilions. This breakfast is just $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children. All proceeds will benefit local Lions Club charities. For more information about the Canton Lions Club, visit cantonlions.org.

The Kiwanis Club of Canton: The Kiwanis Club of Canton performs many community service projects in Plymouth and Canton to help serve children. This year the Kiwanis Club of Canton will provide "Chicken and the (Fire) Works" at Liberty Fest from 11 a.m. 7 p.m. or until sold out. Enjoy a delicious ½ roasted chicken, baked beans, bag of potato chips, roll and butter, Awrey’s double-chocolate frosted brownie, pop or water all for $8 with advance tickets or $10 purchased the day of the event (while they last). New this year! Curbside pick up will be available at the Canton Public Library main entrance from 12-6 p.m. For more information, visit libertyfestbbq.com

The Rotary Club of Canton: The Rotary Club of Canton was chartered on May 16, 1977 and supports many ongoing projects including the contribution of backpacks to the Plymouth Canton Clothing bank at the start of each school year for underprivileged students. Rotary International is one of the oldest service organizations and has the motto, "Service Above Self". During Liberty Fest, the Rotary Club will be hosting the Adult Beverage Tent, which is sponsored by West Side Beer, on: Thursday: 5-10 p.m., Friday: 1-10 p.m.; and Saturday: 11 a.m. - 10:30 p.m. Come cool off with a cold one, near the Canton LIVE! Stage, where they will be offering a selection of beers. Festival-goers must be 21 years or older to enter the Tent.

These certainly aren’t the only non-profit community groups participating in this year’s Liberty Fest. Stroll around the Market Place and discover at least a dozen more who will be on site connecting with the community and promoting their causes.
