Canton, MI – May 24, 2012 - Canton’s 21st Annual Liberty Fest returns to Heritage Park this June offering great food, plenty of entertainment and fabulous fun that the whole family can enjoy. This year’s event will take place on Friday, June 15 from 1 p.m. – 11 p.m. and on Saturday, June 16 from 10 a.m. – 11 p.m., with a special Carnival Preview on Thursday, June 14 from 5 p.m. – 10 p.m. Canton Leisure Services will host this action-packed weekend in beautiful Heritage Park, located adjacent to Canton’s Administration Building, west of Canton Center Road between Cherry Hill Road and Summit Parkway. Sponsors for this year’s exciting festival, include: Atchinson Ford; Red Holman Buick GMC; Gordon Chevrolet; Canton Waste Recycling; Community Financial Credit Union; West Side Beer Distributing; The Goddard School of Early Childhood Development; and The Village Dentist. Stage from 7:30 – 10:30 p.m., featuring the classic rock sounds of Fifty Amp Fuse, who will provide an ultimate live music experience. Also on Thursday from 7:30-9:00 p.m., celebrate another year of Zumba in Canton with a special party at the Heritage Park Amphitheater. We’ll bring the music and awesome instructors, you bring the fun! Come ready to move at this Zumba Anniversary, which is FREE to attend. During Liberty Fest, the Canton Rotary Club will be hosting the Adult Beverage Tent, which is sponsored by West Side Beer Distributing, on: Thursday: 5-10 p.m., Friday: 1-10 p.m.; and Saturday: 11 a.m. - 10:30 p.m. Come cool off with a cold one, near the Canton LIVE! Stage, where we will be offering a selection of beers. Festival-goers must be 21 years or older to enter the Tent. Take a Walk on the Wild Side both Friday and Saturday and enjoy a Petting Farm, Camel Rides, Exotic Animal Exhibits, plus a Bird Encounter. Other exciting events and activities are planned for Friday with two stages jam-packed with a variety of live entertainment. Highlights include: Deep Fried Pickle Project, with a Frankenstonian array of homemade monster instruments, these Jug Band performers will lead two eco-friendly instrument building workshops and conduct a Musical Kids Parade following their second workshop; 15-year-old Dymond Harding, a local vocalist who’s been described as light years ahead of her musical peers; hot from the Nashville music scene; Annabelle Road, will keep the crowd hanging on every note; Earth Angels, with their high energy choreographed dances; and the Movie Under the Stars, featuring Disney’s "The Muppets" on the big screen in the Amphitheater. Also on Friday, the Annual Spaghetti Dinner is planned from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m., while supplies last, with proceeds from the dinner going to the Canton Firefighter Charity Foundation Local 2289. In addition, the America’s Most Wanted Car Show is back with a Kick-Off Registration Party that will take place from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday night is Kids’ Night with special FREE activities, including: D&M Art Studio’s squirt gun art and Make-A-Superhero-Mask; Magician Jason Abbott; an Interactive Nature Nook, where kids can visit with Naturalist Jennifer Zaenglein of Crosswinds Marsh/Wayne County Parks; caricature artists; the Canton Public Library’s ‘Connect Your Summer’ reading program; plus stilt walking, strolling magic and more! Saturday highlights include a Pancake Breakfast, sponsored by the Canton Lions Club from 7-11:00 a.m. in the Heritage Park North Pavilion. New this year, Canton Leisure Services is joining forces with Running Fit of Ann Arbor to host the Run for Liberty, including 5K, 10K, and One Mile events. Participants are encouraged to register at cantonlibertyrun.com and run, walk, or stroll in these inaugural events. Participants will also attempt to break a Guinness World Record for the largest assembly of runners to dress like the Statue of Liberty in one location. This World Record attempt will take place at 9:40 a.m. just south of the clock tower. The first 1,500 registered adults and 100 kids will be given a three-piece Statue of Liberty costume ($40 value) to wear while running and/or during the World Record attempt. Volunteers 16 years of age and older are needed to help with the race, Friday, June 15 and Saturday, June 16. There are a variety of positions available. On Saturday, satisfy your taste buds at the Taste of Canton, sponsored by Gordon Chevrolet, where participating area restaurants will present their local specialties and compete for bragging rights in a taste contest presided over by Canton Supervisor Phil LaJoy. Scheduled entertainment throughout Saturday in Heritage Park includes: The International Festival on the Canton LIVE! Stage from 11 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.; a concert of today’s biggest hits by Big Will and the 360 Degrees Band; the unique sounds of Shout! A Fantastic Tribute to the Beatles; Forever After Productions; Central City Dance Performances; Canton Chiefettes; Detroiter Pat Predd performing a fun mix of pop/rock music and more! The Canton Kiwanis Club presents "Chicken with the (Fire) Works" on Saturday from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. Stop by and enjoy a tasty BBQ chicken dinner complete with sides for $10 ($8 in advance at LibertyFestBBQ.com). America’s Most Wanted Car Show will be back on Saturday, as well. Don’t miss this shining spectacle of classic automobiles around the park’s smaller ponds. All vehicles are welcome and registrations are still being accepted. Be sure to catch the spectacular fireworks show that’s sure to wow the crowd on Saturday at dusk.
