Seniors Can Beat the Winter Blues at the Canton Senior Center

Canton, MI – January 26, 2010 The Canton Senior Center will be busy all winter long with plenty of fun and engaging activities. Located in the Summit on the Park at 46000 Summit Parkway, Canton, MI 48188, this dynamic senior center has something for everyone.

The Winter Pinochle Tournament is right around the corner on Wednesday, January 27 from 1:00-5:00 p.m. The entrance fee is $7 for Canton residents and $9 for non-residents, which includes a light lunch. The top three scorers will receive prizes, so make sure to reserve a spot soon at the Senior Center Front Desk.

If your nickname is Shark and eight-ball is your game, then come and show off your skills at the Senior Singles Pool Tournament on March 10. The blind-draw tournament will start at 9 a.m. and is only $5 for residents and $7 for non-residents. In addition, all players will receive pizza and a beverage.

Stay active this year and give Senior Pickleball a try! Pickleball is a senior-friendly indoor version of tennis that is played every Tuesday from 1:30-4:30 p.m. in the Summit Gym. This league runs from January until late April and is only $8 for residents, $10 for non-residents and is free for Summit members. All players must pre-register at the Senior Desk before taking the court.

For something more relaxing, the Senior Center offers their Winter Movie schedule. A feature film will be shown the last Thursday in January, February and March. These well-liked movies will start at 12:30 p.m. and lunch is provided. Movie goers must pre-register and the cost is $5 for residents and $7 for non-residents.

Calling all bird-watchers, we need your help! The Feeder Watchers are needed to periodically count the type and frequency of bird species in our area. From now until late April, bird watchers will monitor the feeders that are located on the walkway right outside the Senior Center. Visit the Senior Desk for more information.

Sometimes the best way to beat the Winter blues is to get up and venture out. That’s why the Canton Senior Center has a variety of trip options and destinations. Seniors can take a day trip to a casino or theater or go on extended trips to destinations like Chicago, Myrtle Beach and Niagara Falls. Don’t miss these fun travel opportunities.
