History of the Farmers Market
The Canton Farmers Market began in 2007 at the historic Bartlett-Travis house, located at 500 N. Ridge Road, when Canton Leisure Services saw the need for an outdoor market at a centralized location where area vendors could sell their produce and specialty items in a unique setting. The grounds of this Greek revival Home built in the late 1800's were selected to provide a stunning setting that provides easy access for Canton residents and the surrounding communities to shop for everything from fresh vegetables, fruit, honey and everything in between.

Docent led tours are also available during market hours. Last year, over 300 individuals strolled through the market, enjoying one of Canton's best kept secrets. To add to your shopping convenience, there is plenty of parking. Vendors can also utilize on-site electricity and an indoor restroom.
According to Jane Marshall, executive director of the Food Bank Council
of Michigan, buying locally produced food not only can bring fresher,
healthier choices to your family’s table, it can also help Michigan’s
economy. If every Michigan family bought just $10 per week of
Michigan produce, it would keep $37 million a week from leaving
Michigan or $1.9 billion each year—a significant number, especially in
our current depressed economy.
Local buying could generate almost 2,000 new jobs and increase
farm income as much as 16 percent, according to the Michigan Land
Use Institute study Eat Fresh and Grow Jobs. Our five county area of
southeastern Michigan (Jackson, Lenawee, Monroe, Washtenaw and
Wayne counties) is home to over 5500 farms which account for over
10% of Michigan farms. By visiting Canton’s Farmers Market, you can
do your part to support this local industry.
